Movie review: 2004 movie

 That's right, I'm doing a movie review.
I got this movie last year for Christmas, and I was excited to watch it again. I actually do really like this version, but it has many flaws. I'm going to make a list of such flaws, in no particular order.

1) Joel Schumacher- I'll be honest, this surprised me. After Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin, I'm surprised anyone ever let him direct anything ever again, especially not Phantom. And honestly, upon learning that he was the director, who didn't expect something like this:
Admit it!!!
Anyway, it was totally unexpected, in any case.

2) Gerard Butler- o_o really? Gerard Butler? Seriously? Honestly, when I hear the name Gerard Butler in the same sentence as Phantom , all I can think of is this

not this.
I'm sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense.

3) Erik's deformity- I'm not gonna sugarcoat this, ERIK IS SUPPOSED TO BE HORRIBLY DEFORMED, NOT HAVE A BAD SUNBURN!!!!!!! Whoever designed that makeup had clearly never seen anything about Phantom before. I mean, when you think about Phantom, you expect something like this:
or since it's the ALW production, something like this:
but noooo, you get this:
disappointing at best.

4) the Masquerade scene- the most colorful scene in the show. full of brightness, costumes, colours everywhere. It's beautiful. but here, it all gets toned down to a limited range of gold, black, blue, white and Christine's fancy pink dress. Even the red death costume sucks now.
                                                                   does not equal

I don't understand why they toned it down so much, but it upsets me that they did.

5) the chandelier crash - In the original show, right after Erik sees Raoul and Christine, the chandelier is dropped upon the stage, an iconic event fro the story. So obviously, this is the case in the movie. WRONG!           Clearly, it makes more sense that the chandelier crash be in act two, after Point of No Return!
in case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. To this day, I still don't understand why this decision was made, I mean, what sense does it make?

It makes no difference to the storyline, the way they executed it, so what was the point? I don't know, and thinking about  it makes my head hurt. let's just go to the next thing.

6) The missing verse- this really upsets me... THEY TOOK A VERSE OUT OF THE TITLE SONG!!!!!!!
Why!? It was my favorite line, too. you know, the verse that goes "in all your fantasies, you always knew that man and mystery-"were both in you"-"and in this labyrinth, where night is blind, the Phantom of the opera is there, inside my/your mind!"  you know, that one, right? they cut it out! and the reason...? who knows?!

v.s

see for yourself.

Anyway, that's all I got. Don't get me wrong, I like this movie a lot, but still, as any movie, it was full of flaws. overall, 6.5 out of 10 masks.

thank you, more reviews coming soon.

this a list of things Erik has stated as unnecessary, annoying, offensive, and punishable by death. It would be wise to take notes.
1) climbing into the coffin while he is asleep( I learned this the hard way.)
2) playing dress-up in his wardrobe
3) wearing his other masks
4) kicking Ayesha
5) mentioning the words "Vicomte", "Raoul", and "De Chagny"
6) PhanPhics are unacceptable, as well as punishable by death.
7) drawing mustaches on the Christine mannequin
8) writing blogs about him ( this really seems to upset him)
9) going through the "bag of life and death"
10) asking about the room seemingly filled with tortured screaming
11) playing with the punjab lasso
12) dressing as Christine
13) wearing a half mask all day
14) sleeping in his cloak
15) folding origami with his sheet music
16) shouting " He's there, the Phantom of the opera!"
17) swimming in the lake
19) sleeping in the coffin
and above all, never, ever, EVER allow the speculation of merest possibility of ever allowing the thought of...
20) REMOVING THE MASK
ever begin to ever possibly speculate the merest, slightest possibility of ever, ever, EVER crossing your mind!!!!

PS:the pic isn't mine, i just made the girl look more like me. I don't know who drew it, but I love it, and if you know who drew it, please tell them that I love it, and if my use of it upsets them in any way, I will remove it if necessary.
Hi. As you can probably already tell, I am a huge phangirl... this is an understatement to say the least. when I was 6, I fell in love with the opera ghost's tragic tale. Ever since, I have been much more than obsessed with this tale. However, this is not the point of this blog. Or, Maybe it is. I'm not sure. As I attempt to solve this mystery, I will participate in normal Phan activities.Occasionally, I will review books, movies and the like, as well as write parodies, alternate endings, and just my general viewpoint on things. I hope you enjoy, and I would like to ask you to please not come to my home with pitchforks and torches.
